There is a misinformation and scare  in many NRI  that strength training will make them big  and hence increase their weight. This is a myth. Strength training will build lean muscle and help burn fat. Hence adding strength training in your daily exercise routine will not only help you get stronger , but you can lose weight as well on a long run. And Strength Training should be done at all ages as per your bodies abilities to handle weights . You  may not lift heavy weights at age 50, but you surely should lift light weights along with your regular cardio exercises ,which will help tone your body and help to build lean muscles and get stronger.
So what part of the body should you work? All of it – your upper body, core, and lower body.

Your upper body is made up of your arms, chest, shoulders, neck, and upper back, Some of the exercises to be done for your  upper body:

  • Pushups
  • Dumbbell Side Exercise
  • Chest Press
  • Dumbbell Shoulder Raise
  • Lat Pull Down
  • Tricep Kick Back
  • Dumbbell Shoulder Press
  • Bicep Curl

The core is a critical part of your body  because you derive much of your balance from the middle section of your body. Plus a strong core allows you to do other exercises better and more effectively without hurting yourself. When it comes to your core, almost everyone works on their stomachs with sit-up exercises. But there are also more to your core, which includes obloquies, lower back, hips and groin. Below are a few exercises for the core:

  • Crunches
  • Crunch w/Twist
  • Reverse Crunch
